The short version

No account, no sign-up, no contact form. We never ask you for personal information.
The pages are static files. There is no database recording who visited what.
No cookies are set, no browser storage is used, and no third-party request is made. Fonts are served from this domain rather than a font provider, so no outside company is told you visited.

Who is responsible

This site is operated by IHN, the data controller for any personal data processed through it. For privacy questions, or to exercise any of the rights below, email privacy@whatownersreport.com.

What is collected

Server logs. The hosting provider records standard request data -- IP address, time, page requested, user agent -- for delivery, security and abuse prevention. The lawful basis is legitimate interest. These logs are not used to build a profile of you and are retained only as long as the provider's standard retention period.
Nothing else, by default. No analytics, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party embeds.

Cookies

This site currently sets no cookies at all and uses no local or session storage. If that changes, this page will change with it and you will be asked before anything non-essential is stored.

Data about vehicles is not data about you

The complaint records shown throughout the site come from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public database. NHTSA publishes them with personal details removed, and we publish only aggregates and excerpts of the complaint narratives as released. We do not add to them, and we hold nothing that links a complaint to a named person.

If you believe a complaint narrative reproduced here still identifies someone, tell us and we will remove it. The authoritative record remains NHTSA's, so a correction should also be raised with them.

Your rights

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection to processing based on legitimate interest, plus the right to complain to your supervisory authority. Because we hold no account and no profile, in practice the only personal data connected to you is in the server logs described above; tell us roughly when you visited and from which address and we will search and act on it.

If you are a California resident: we do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising unless you have accepted advertising cookies. You may withdraw that at any time using Cookie settings.

Transfers and processors

The site is hosted and delivered by Cloudflare, Inc., whose network necessarily processes request data in the location closest to you, including outside the EEA, under Cloudflare's data processing terms and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. No other processor receives data from this site: there is currently no advertising, analytics or other third-party service.

Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page. The page is versioned in the site's source history, so what it said on any given date can be checked.
