The affected steering shafts may have a yoke that inadequately supports the u-joint bearing resulting in a premature failure.
A joint bearing that fails prematurely may cause separation of the u-joint resulting in a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

HER NECK WAS INJURED AND SHE WAS TRANSPORTED TO A PHYSICIAN DUE TO THE CHEMICALS EXPELLED FROM THE AIR BAGS. THE IMPACT WAS FORCEFUL ENOUGH THAT THE CONTACT THOUGHT SHE HAD BEEN SHOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HER NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,495 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,600.
