A build-up of silicate on the shift lever micro switch contacts may enable the key to be removed from the ignition when the transmission shift lever is not in "Park."

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND SUGGESTED THAT THE DEALER REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000.

THE LOUDNESS AND INTENSITY OF THE GLASS BREAKING NEARLY CAUSED ME LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE.
