This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. DORMAN IS RECALLING 979 STEERING KNUCKLES, DORMAN P/NOS. 697-902 AND 697-903, SOLD UNDER DORMAN'S "OE SOLUTIONS<SUP>TM</SUP>" BRAND NAME, AND NAPA P/NOS. 7-8502 AND 7-8503 WHICH WERE SOLD FOR REPLACEMENT USE ON THE VARIOUS VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.

A BROKEN STEERING KNUCKLE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DASH PANEL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS POORLY LIGHTED AND THERE WAS LIMITED VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING IN THE DAYLIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A SERVICE DEALER ON A BRIGHT DAY, THEREFORE THE PANEL WAS VISIBLE AND THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IN CLOUDY CONDITIONS THE GAUGES ARE NOT VISIBLE AT ALL.

WE HAVE A 2006 CHEVY MONTE CARLO WHICH WE BOUGHT IN MARCH OF 2007 WITH 25 MILES ON IT FROM MAROONE CHEVROLET IN FORT LAUDERDALE FLORIDA AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS THE " SERVICE TIRE MONITORING SYSTEM " LIGHT WOULD CONTINUOUSLY COME ON. WE TOOK CAR INTO MAROONE IN PEMBROKE PINES AT LEAST 5 TIMES AND EVERY TIME WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED ..NEEDLESS TO SAY TO THIS DAY 1-25-08 IT IS STILL ON WE ARE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER IN THE MORNING AGAIN WHY I HAVE NO IDEA ! AS OF THIS TIME NOTHING IS BEING FIXED AND WE ARE BEING TOLD IT IS ~ IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND HURTFUL BEING LIED TO TIME AFTER TIME . *TR

WITHIN 1 MONTH CAR NOW WILL NOT GO INTO PARK AT ALL WITHOUT MANUALLY GOING UNDER THE HOOD AND MOVING THE SHIFT CABLE. SINCE THE CAR REMAINS VERY HOT UNDERNEATH THE HOOD FOR A WHILE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY FOR A WOMAN, BUT NECESSARY TO REMOVE YOUR KEYS FROM THE IGNITION AND TO PUT YOUR KEYS INTO PARK. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. WHILE PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY AT 4 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. THE MOUNT THAT HOLDS THE RACK AND PINION STEERING FAILED AND BOTH FRONT WHEELS WERE HEADED IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE BOUNCED UP AND DOWN A FEW INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY HAVE NEVER BEFORE SEEN THIS TYPE OF FAILURE AND WILL REPLACE THE STEERING RACK. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 23,300.
