In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.
If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

AT RANDON THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT & WARNING WILL APPEAR. THIS PREVENTS DOORS FROM BEING LOCKED WHILE THE KEY IS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. DOOR IS SECURE AND CLOSED. WARNING LIGHT WILL SOMETIMES COME ON WHILE DRIVING. I AM CONCERNED IT PRESENTS A SECURITY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING IN SOME URBAN AREAS. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WE NOTICED A GAS SMELL COMING THROUGH THE AIR CONDITIONER. WHEN WE STOPPED ON AN OFF RAMP, SMOKE STARTED TO COME THROUGH THE AIR CONDITIONING VENT. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND EVACUATED. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THERE IS A RECALL ON FILE THAT AFFECTS THE FUEL LINES BUT IT SAYS FORD CLAIMS THAT OUR VIN ISN'T INCLUDED IN THAT BATCH. *TR
