In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag.

THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BUMPER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, VEHICLE FAILED TO START, BUT DISPLAYED A "STEERING WHEEL LOCK DEFECTIVE" ALERT. WHEN KEY IS REMOVED AND REPLACED IN THE IGNITION, IT WILL THEN START. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE IS NOW IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT DUE TO OIL RUNNING LOW. THE VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED ON ITS REGULAR 10,000 MILE SCHEDULE AND DID NOT GIVE ANY WARNINGS OR ALERTS. IT ALTOGETHER FAILED TO START AND GAVE ONLY A SHAKING/RATTLING NOISE WHEN TRYING TO CRANK. IN ALL INSTANCES, THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
