In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN CC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VEHICLE WILL NOT START. MESSAGE INDICATES "STEERING WHEEL COLUMN LOCK". THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH OTHER VW MODELS, BUT DEALERSHIP WON'T COVER IT, AND GENERAL MANAGER IS ACTING AS IF HE DOESN'T KNOW THIS ISSUE EXISTS WITH OTHER MODELS.
MY FUEL TANK HAD UNEXPLAINED DAMAGE TO THE FUEL NECK WHICH CAUSED THE NEED FOR THE ENTIRE TANK TO BE REPLACED. THE DAMAGE CAUSED THE GAS PUMPS TO SHUTOFF AND MAKING FUELING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE. THE TANK AND NECK ARE ONE UNIT. THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER CAN EXPLAIN HOW SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD OF OCCURRED. THE CAR WAS NEVER IN ANY SORT OF ACCIDENT NOR WAS THERE ANY SIGNS OF DAMAGE ELSEWHERE TO THE VEHICLE.
